COSTA MESA -- A 59-year-old man was arrested Saturday afternoon, April 8, after trying to pass the right side of a semi-truck making a right turn -- and getting his Mercedes partially lodged under the truck’s trailer, police said.

Brian Elden, 59, of Costa Mesa was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, said Roxi Fyad, spokeswoman for the Costa Mesa Police Department.

Neither Elden nor the truck driver were injured.

The tractor-trailer was traveling north on Placentia Avenue around 12:15 p.m. Saturday and tried to turn right onto 17th Street. Elden tried pass the truck on the right and swiped it, Fyad said.

Photos of the crash show the silver Mercedes sedan wedged between the trailer on the left and the sidewalk on the right – partially tilted in the air.

Police are investigating
